Absent from the winner’s circle since March 2018, Margaux grad Kimbear fought tooth and nail to get the advantage in today’s feature race at Meydan, the $350,000 G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1. Kimbear hit the line in the 1600m dirt contest with favorite North America on his inside and Secret Ambition to his outside, having to dig deep and battle back after flattening out slightly mid -stretch. The photo finish revealed Kimbear on top, piloted by regular rider Pat Dobbs for trainer Doug Watson, who has been on a roll this far at the 2020 Dubai World Cup Carnival.

Owned by Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Watson says the 6yo son of Temple City will now get a break, with hopes of a big 2020 season after a frustrating, interrupted 2019.
