Classic Causeway Is Derby Dreamin'

Margaux Starting & Training Grad CLASSIC CAUSEWAY bumped himself to the #3 slot on the early Derby Leaderboard as he cruised home to a 3 3/4 L victory in the G3 Sam F. Davis, going 1 1/16 miles at Tampa Bay Downs on February 12.

Off as the favorite in one of the first preps of Derby season, he broke to the front and hung with leader LITTLE VIC through early fractions of :22.66 and :46.67. Tucked down on the inside as they passed the 3/4 pole, CLASSIC CAUSEWAY shrugged off his rivals and pulled away down the stretch to a 3 3/4-length victory in 1:42.80.

A homebred for Kentucky West Racing LLC and Clarke M. Cooper Family Living Trust, CLASSIC CAUSEWAY is out of the multiple stakes winning THUNDER GULCH mare PRIVATE WORLD. He is one of just three colts from the final crop of sensational stallion GIANT’S CAUSEWAY.

Trained by Brian Lynch, he had a stellar 2 YO campaign breaking his maiden at first ask and closing the year with a 3rd in the G1 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity and runner-up finish in the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. Following his victory in the G3 Sam F. Davis, he now has earnings of $301,100.
