May was a fantastic month for Margaux Farm graduates, with 16 individual runners finding their way to the winner’s circle. They were:
May 4th – FIRSTRATE PROPOSAL – Freshening grad, broke her maiden at Churchill Downs by two and a quarter lengths. The four year old Exchange Rate filly won for trainer Wayne Catalano and owners Polivka Equine Holdings LLC and Brushy Hill.
May 5th – EXPECTATIONS – Training grad, broke his maiden in his third lifetime start going a mile on a sloppy track at Laurel Park for Graham Motion and Peter Blum.
May 5th – PUT ON A SHOW – Freshening grad, broke her maiden going six furlongs on the dirt at Belmont Park for trainer Richard Violette Jr. and owner BHMF, LLC.
May 5th – ACES HIGH – Training grad, won the season opener at Canterbury Park, travelling one mile on the dirt. The allowance victory pushed his career earnings over the $200,000 mark for Pocket Aces Racing.
May 6th – DIVISIDERO – Starting, training and freshening grad, won his second consecutive G1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic S. at Churchill Downs on Derby day. Trained by William “Buff” Bradley, the five year old horse by Kitten’s Joy has earnings of over $1 million.
May 11th – LOOSE ON THE TOWN – Starting and training grad, won his second race in a row when he took a turf sprint allowance at Belmont Park. His win tied him for the highest Equibase Speed Figure of the week. Margaux Farm owners, Jim and Susan Hill, own the five year old Speightstown gelding, and he is trained by Brian Lynch.
May 11th – SUPERSTITIOUS SWAN – Freshening grad, broke her maiden by 11 lengths at Evangeline Downs under Cristina Bonilla, for owner/trainer Roland Bruno.
May 11th – WAGON BOSS – Freshening grad, won for the third time in his career, an allowance race sprinting on the turf at Churchill Downs for owner Michael House and trainer Ignacio Correas.
May 12th – FLATTER CHATTER – Freshening grad, broke her maiden at Arlington Park by almost three lengths for jockey Jose Lopez, trainer Ignacio Correas and owner Las Raices, LLC and I.C. Racing LLC.
May 12th – LEX VEGAS – Starting and training grad, doubled up on his win at Keeneland in April and won an allowance race at Belmont Park by two and a quarter lengths for trainer Brian Lynch and owners Susan Hill and Jason Sciortino.
May 14th – UNDER THE TABLE – Freshening and training grad, winning for the second time in 2017, a starter allowance at Belterra Park going a mile and a sixteenth on the turn for owner BHMF, LLC and Brett Santangelo.
May 19th – MAJESTIC ANGEL – Freshening and training grad, got her 4th career win in an allowance race at Belterra Park going a mile and a sixteenth on the turf. She is trained by Eric Reed for owner Jerry Jamgotchian.
May 19th – DIVINE MISS GREY – Starting and training grad, recovered from a bad stumble at the break to take the 7th race at Belmont Park and make it three wins from five starts this year. The three year old Divine Park filly is owned by Corms Racing Stable and trained by Danny Gargan.
May 20th – SAVANNAH BELLE – Starting grad, won a mile and an eighth allowance race on the turf at Churchill Downs by over 4 lengths under Declan Cannon. Eddie Kenneally was the winning trainer, Mike Schmeling, Heather Sparks and Mike Bradley the winning owners.
May 24th – DEFINING HOPE – Starting and training grad, demolished the field in the Swiftly Sired Fillies S. at Indiana Downs by 9 1/2 lengths for owner/breeder Colette Vanmatre and trainer Barbara McBride
May 25th – SPACE CADET – Starting and training grad, won a turf allowance going a mile and a quarter at Santa Anita for BHMF, LLC, Richard Baltas & Flavien Prat.
