Margaux Starting & Training Grad HICKSY powered down the stretch to defeat fellow Grad IRONSTONE, capturing the Display S. going 7F on Woodbine’s All Weather Track October 30.
8-5 favorite IRONSTONE broke sharply and took command early, leading the field through quick splits of :23.08 and :46.10 with HICKSY chasing just a length behind. Swinging into the three path as they entered mid-stretch, HICKSY kicked into gear, passing IRONSTONE to win by a 3/4-length.
“He was a progressive colt that got stronger and more professional with every work at the farm,” said farm trainer Dermot Littlefield. “He thrived on training and we are glad to see him rewarding his connections on the track.”
A mere $45,000 purchase by owner Donato Lanni, this was just the third start for the 2 YO son of Hootenanny. Trained by Kevin Attard, he is now two-for-three with earnings of $98.129. He is also the first stakes winner for freshman sire HOOTENANNY (QUALITY ROAD), standing at Ward Ranch in Lexington, KY.
