It was a very productive month for Margaux Farm owners Jim and Susan Hill, whose stable of runners collected four wins throughout the September meet at Churchill Downs, enough to tie them with Sagamore Farm for the title of leading owner.
Kicking things off in the win column was Troubling Moon, who captured the 7th race on September 19th. He won the allowance race by 2 ¾ lengths under Brian Hernandez Jr., for trainer Rusty Arnold II.
We didn’t have long to wait for the second win, which came promptly in the following race that evening when Phantom Currency broke his maiden by over 3 lengths at long odds. The 3yo gelding is trained by Brian Lynch and was ridden by James Graham.
Holiday Stone provided us with win number three, capturing an allowance race September 26th. Trained by Eddie Kenneally, he prevailed by a head going a mile on the grass under Declan Cannon.
The final winner of the meet was Not Very Gentle, who closed to score in a maiden special weight event going a mile and a sixteenth on the dirt. Ridden by Adam Beschizza for trainer Brian Lynch, the 3yo son of Shakin It Up had been second in his previous start at Ellis Park the month before.
